We have continued to work on the house over the summer . . . the hot, hot summer.

May 21st, we replaced the dead oak tree with a red maple in the back yard – I can’t wait to see the beautiful colors in the fall! We also got a shepherd’s hook to hang our bird feeder.

We planted a pink crape myrtle tree in our side yard in June. We bought this about 3 years ago at a silent auction, so it was nice to finally have it! Also on this side of the yard, we finished the sprinkler system June 1st. Now all our grass is getting watered regularly and looks healthy and green! It’s a relief to be done and have all the grass come back so well.

We bought dressers for the master closet, one for each of us. They fit perfectly in the spots we left for them in the shelving. Now our closet is fully organized.

I organized the Office – cleaned out the closet and put things away in the desk. We also filed several boxes of papers from the last several months. I love organization and can now find things again.
I also organized the middle Bedroom. This was our storage room when we didn’t know where to put something. I wanted to make the space useful, so I’m converting it to a Craft Room. I’ve already done a little sewing project in there.

Before.

After – much better!

Granted it’s still cluttered, but it’s functional. We are getting rid of this old mattress soon.

Adam worked on the finish coat of the front door and removed all the blue tape! We still need to do some trim, but it is a huge improvement!

Auntie & Uncle Stan gave us their old queen size bed and frame – so we upgraded our guest room. It’s a sleep number bed, for those who’d like to come visit . . . we’d love to have you!

I took the leftover carpet remnant to get the edges bound and now we’re using it as a rug in the Living Room. It brightens up the room a lot and is nice to have something soft for your feet.
Our recent large task has been organizing the garage. Adam installed the baseboards and I caulked them. Adam also built a work bench out of doors he demoed from the jobsite he’s working on. Last week we installed peg board over the work bench and hung up the tools. We also bought two shelves and loaded them down with tools and hardware. I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to be able to find the tool you’re looking for – this will be a huge time saver!

Before.

After.

We cleaned out the electrical closet – this was a huge job and it makes me so happy to be able to see the floor again. We made access to the area under the stair landing for extra storage – here we filled it with paint supplies. I wish I had a before picture, it would be much more impressive. Just picture piles and piles of boxes and stuff everywhere. Adam took advantage of the clean floors by caulking the baseboards. Adam also installed and caulked the baseboards in the pantry closet – now all the interior baseboards are done!

Here’s the front of our house now. I’d like to make this our next big project. We are going to put in a paver walkway from the driveway to the front door, build a stone base for double Corinthian columns, sand & paint the beam, and install railing between the stone columns. This is a lot of work, but I’d love to finish it by the end of the year!
Apart from work, we spend a few days in July visiting Texas seeing family and getting in the cowboy spirit . . .

Visiting Whitney Church of Christ with Memom & Pepaw – here’s the whole clan. I’m holding my cousin’s daughter Julie, she was just 5 weeks old in this picture.

We shot skeet on our last day; here I’m pulling for Adam

Philip and I got boots, now we’re really Texans.
