The latest update I heard is that tropical storm Fay will exit Florida around Daytona Beach, strengthen to a catagory 1 hurricane, and then turn back and hit Florida around St. Augustine. This means that Jacksonville is getting hit!
Now, I've been through my share of hurricanes, and there have even been some enjoyable experiences (hurricane party with pizza the size of the coffee table, slumber parties in the dining room, days off of school to go to a sink hole). But, this will be the first time that I actually own land and/or a condo. So, the potential for damage takes some of the fun away. Catagory 1 hurricanes have 74-95 mph wind. I fear for our newly installed floor trusses. We may need to make a trip out to the house later to literaly batten down the hatches. Hopefully the hype exceeds reality. But, I stocked up on water, batteries, and non-perishable food last night just in case. Now, if only they'd cancel work . . . this may be worth it.
