. . . on to Floor Trusses

We have moved on to floor trusses! We finished up the top-top plates and aligning all the walls (well, at least the structural ones) this past week. We tried to get a partial framing inspection on Friday, but the inspector told us they don't do partial residential framing inspections. So, we'll have to wait till the final inspection and hope everything's right. Adam started putting up floor trusses on Friday night.

These are the trusses that Adam did with his brother on Friday.

Same trusses, another angle. They were surprisingly lighter than expected. Adam can get them up and into place with only one other person's help!

We went to a wedding on Saturday in St. Simon's Island, GA. It was a lot of fun to see friends from college and to realize that people actually read this blog. Thanks for joining us on this journey! Also, congratulations to Rick and Christina on your marriage!

Adam and I got to the house late in the afternoon on Saturday. I actually helped him get one of the long trusses in place over the living room - but, then decided I didn't like balancing on top of a wall while trying to keep a very heavy truss from falling. So, we moved onto the little trusses above the foyer. We got one of those in place and then a couple friends stopped by to see the progress. Adam quickly put them to work and finished the trusses over the living room - thank you Nels and Jim! And, thanks for visiting Jenni and Ashlee, I enjoyed the break!

Sunday, we fixed a couple walls and put on the last top-top plate over the front door.

We set the trusses over the foyer and office. Thanks for coming out to help us, Daryl!

These are the pieces that make up our beams. We have to attach two pieces together and still need to look up how to set them properly.

We also set the trusses over the laundry room.

Adam is nailing a brace on top of the laundry room trusses.

Setting the floor trusses is pretty quick work, assuming your walls are in the right place to receive them. The main issue we ran into so far was they made some of the trusses about a 1/2 - 3/4 inch too long. This doesn't work because these particular trusses butt up against other trusses already in place and go into the stairwell. So, we'll have to cut them down some. We also need to figure out how to do the beams properly. But, this stage is fun and we're making a lot of progess.

Once we get the floor trusses set, we'll do the subflooring and then build the second floor walls. Then, it'll be time to set the roof trusses. We'll rent a lift or small crain to get those in place.
